Kumbh Mela (it start after or on the day of Makar Sankranti) is a mass Hindu pilgrimage(a trip, often a long one, made to a holy place for religious reasons) of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe(Gangasagar) in a sacred or holy river. Traditionally, four fairs are widely recognized as the Kumbh Melas: the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela, Haridwar Kumbh Mela, the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha, and Ujjain Simhastha. These four fairs are held periodically at one of the following places by rotation: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik district (Nashik and Trimbak), and Ujjain. The main festival site is located on the banks of a river: the Ganges (Ganga) at Haridwar; the confluence (Sangam) of the Ganges and the Yamuna and the invisible Sarasvati at Prayagraj; the Godavari at Nashik; and the Shipra at Ujjain. Bathing in these rivers is thought to cleanse a person of all their sins.

Basant Panchami day is dedicated to Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge, music, arts, science, and technology. Goddess Saraswati is worshipped on Vasant Panchami day. Basant Panchami is also known as Shri Panchami and Saraswati Panchami.

People worship Goddess Saraswati to get enlighten with knowledge and to get rid of lethargy, sluggishness, and ignorance. This ritual of initiating education to children is known as Aksharabhyasam or Vidyarambham/Prahasana which is one of the famous rituals of Basant Panchami. Schools and colleges arrange pujas in the morning to seek the blessing of the Goddess.
